In case you missed the news last month, our friends at MDM reported that dashboards and scorecards are winning the analytics capabilities race. Almost half (44%) of the respondents to the MDM-Baird Distribution Survey reported that their data analytics capabilities have matured to the extent that they are now using dashboards and scorecards. Compare this to the percentage of respondents that describe their analytics maturity level at:

  • Data mining, corrective indicators, and forecasting: 27%
  • Spreadsheets and basic reporting: 14%
  • Modeling and optimization: 9%
  • Big data analytics: 6%

Other interesting results of the survey of 500 respondents?

  • 56% of respondents reported that they plan to increase their investment in analytics, including  technology, people, and processes!
  • Distributors continue to seek “one version of the truth,” a goal we hear all the time here at MITS
  • Sales tops the list of analytics priorities at 23% of respondents, with inventory management (18%), profitability (15%), and pricing (12%) in the runner up positions
